What a horse has to offer and why we do what we do.
The poem below is by a veteran who needed what horses have to offer for therapy. Horses truly have a remarkable way of connecting with people—calmly,< intuitively, and without judgment.
I wrote this about my time with Pistol:
He understands me even though I don’t.
He stands still, even if I won’t.
He stands still. He can run, but doesn’t.
Am I a good man, even though at times I wasn’t?
He stands still. He encourages me to feel,
Even though I’m afraid to heal. He stands still.
He is a mirror, Even if I look down,
I see clearer. He stands still.
My heart wants to run, but he won’t let me. He sees me.
He won’t let me forget me. He stands still.
I put my hand on his mane.
He lowers his head and tells me it’s ok. He stands still.
In this moment I’m safe, we share every breathe I take.
He stands still.
